SCORE: James Brown dramatic to the end
Mood:  lyrical
Topic: Death Score

Jesse Jackson said, "James was dramatic to the end, dying on Christmas Day." Brown was 73.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6208615.stm

Two coroners handpicked Brown to truly show he had soul this year - Robert busts his 2006 cherry with a big 1.7 CC, but had to share the duo hit bonus with our new leader Rat Pack who had Brown in the 1.0 slot.

Dynasty creator died among nastiness
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: Death Score

Brian G alerted me to a missed score back from JUNE!

TV mogul Aaron Spelling passed away after a massive stroke at age 83,. but the story doesn't end there. Seems his daughter Tori ("90210") and estranged wife Candy feuded for most of the recent past.

To the updated score! solo hit for Brian G gets 25, rawscore of 125-83 = 42, total score is 67, getting Brian G his second kill of the year.

I simply edited the most recent standings from Nov 12.

Standings Update!
Mood:  accident prone
Topic: Standings

We have a new leader with the unfortunate passing of screen legend Jack Palance. Still lots of story lines to play out, most notably that these deaths tend to happen in threes, and Palance was the second in a week after Red Auerbach.  While I am sure that some pop culturalists in Soweto can make a case for their recent celebrity deaths, we are focused on the homefront in this game.

Standings

Gary H 283 - Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (solo) , Jack Palance (solo)

Rat Pack 276 - Winters (duo), Bentsen and Allyson (solos are the MOV)

Buy the Farm 182 + 51 = 233  - Reave (solo), Woods (solo) auerbach (duo)

*Brian G 181 - Rukeyser plus Spelling

Vince
105 + 62 =167 - Coretta Scott King (solo) Red Auerbach (duo)

Mark M 148 - Winters, Rukeyser

*Larry V
53 - Galbraith (solo)

*Jeff S - ZERO

Robert G - ZERO!

* = no Sharon on the roster for 2006

His parents knew him as Vladimir Palahnuik...
Mood:  vegas lucky
Topic: Death Score

but we all knew him as Jack Palance, the gritty and tough bad guy in movies diverse in theme and timeframe. He died of natural causes on Saturday morning at the age of 87.

From an Oscar nomination for Shane in 1953, to an Oscar Award in 1992 for City Slickers, Palance showed little acting range despite the spread in time. I will always rememberhis one-armed puchups on Oscar night a fewyears back when Billy Crystal questioned his toughness.

Gary H scores the solo hit, let's roll the big board...

125-87 = 38, big 1.8 confidence kicker for a raw score of 69. Add in the 25 point bonus for the unique hit, Gary racks up 94 points as we are in the back stretch for 2005.

Palance is H's second solo hit of the season, and this is his second submission for Palance who also appeared on the 2004 roster.

Standings in a moment...

Light up your Cigars!
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: Death Score

Red Auerbach was known to light up a cigar while coaching his beloved Boston Celtics in the 60's. The Celtic Patriarch passed away today at the age of 89, but the Mortfolio caretakers who selected Red (Buy the Farm, Vince) shouldn't light up their own victory Cigar quite yet.

125-89 equals 36 raw points.
Farm had the 1.0 CC for 36, Vince had the 1.3 CC for 47

Each of us gets duo bonus of 15.

CRIKEY!
Mood:  accident prone
Topic: Death NOT Score

In one of the more un-dramatic ends to a life known for risk-taking, The Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died Monday from a stingray puncture to his heart. He was 44.

His death serves to remind us that even the most dedicated thrill-seeker can felled at any moment. Let us also realize the dramatic impact he made to pop culture and to the health of eco-systems everywhere in his fanatical support to wildlife education.

Please don't degrade this to simply scan the TV section for other wildlife hosts.

 Yeah right...
