Who will die in sports?
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: Impending Death
Sorry for the delay in posts - work seems to have shut down my access to this thing, and I have more free time at work than home (newly married, keeping "busy" if ya na'mean)...

Your caretaker found a tremendous article on odds for athletes to die, and I have been convinced that celebrities exist outside the human realm.

Show of hands - who knew that Danica Patrick wears a flame-retardant suit in order to keep the hotness INSIDE - G'damn! So sweet I'd mop that up with a biscuit!

Heard of June Allyson? Depends...
Mood:  lucky
Topic: Death Score

on your age. Older of us remember as the raspy-voiced wife in many famous movies. Younger of us know her as the spokeswoman for Depends undergarments. Ah, wordplay...

Chronic bronchitis led to respiratory failure, taking June Allyson at age 88.  The Rat pack sore a solo hit with this beauty, and their patience has been rewarded - they had her on the 2005 list as well.

Let us run the numbers...

(125-88) * 1.6 cc = 60 points + 25pt solo = 85 pts

Better Late than Never: The Ariel Sharon Watch
Mood:  irritated
Topic: Impending Death
Since the impact of Sharon's death will have just a bit less impact to the Mortfolio than it will create in the Middle East, I thought it was important near the halfway point that I include some links on Sharon's current status.

On May 29, Sharon moved to a long-term care facility.

The most comprehensive site appears to be the Miami paper the Sun-Sentinel, maintaining a blog-like roll of Sharon stories.

Sharon appears on 6 of the 9 rosters for 2006, and of those six only one is NOT in the 2.0 CC slot.

If Sharon dies in 2006, the Mortfolio score would be 47 multiplied by the confidence kicker, effectively separating those five squads from the rest. Brian G has the most to gain by Sharon's health, as he is currently in fourth and would love to see waste their 2.0 spot.

"I knew Zarqawi, and you are no Zarqawi..."
Mood:  hug me
Topic: Death Score
Former Senator and Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen, the Democratic vice presidential nominee who in 1988 famously told rival Dan Quayle he was “no Jack Kennedy,” died Tuesday of complications from strokes. He was 85.

The title reference speaks more to the scoring spread between the 85 year old Bentsen for the Rat Pack and Abu al-Zarqawi for Gary H last week than it does to compare either to the receiver of the Magic Bullet.

In the words of Jerry Lewis, ROLL THAT BIG BOARD!

(125-85)*1.8ck = 73, plus 25 solo hit bonus = 98 points.

We have a new leader as The Rat Pack squeaks into first (couldn't resist...).

Not shabby at all, shows the importance of the Confidence Kicker (CK). The CK may also show how bad most of us look for piling on the Ariel Sharon bandwagon.

Zarqowi? Zar-Blowie!
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Death Score
American Forces moved quickly on intelligence that Al Qaeda #2 Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was huddling with clerics. One bunker buster later, al-Zarqawi was dead.

Many around the world rejoiced in his death as a symbol that terrorists do indeed face justice. Few rejoiced more than Mortfolio's own Gary H.

Gary took a huge risk with Abu in the 1.9 Confidence kicker, based on young age (39) and also what I would say could be a difficulty in verifying his death. Here are the digits:

(125-39) *1.9 = 164 + 25pts unique bonus = a record 189 POINTS for a single death!

There exists much confusion in regards to Mark M's entry of Ayman al-Zawahiri. That is a different dude. Wikipedia wins again. Mark gets nothing and likes it.

PS - There is a last terrorist bonus of 20 points that cannot be awarded until the terminus of the contest. Stay tuned if Gary H can go over 200 points with this pick alone!

Mood:  don't ask
I do not recall how I found this Scarefactory site, but I immediately thought of my Mortfolio brethren.

You can click on this forever.

And why is the word "Impaler" so damn funny to me?
