"I knew Zarqawi, and you are no Zarqawi..."
Mood:

Topic: Death Score
Former Senator and Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen, the Democratic vice presidential nominee who in 1988 famously told rival Dan Quayle he was “no Jack Kennedy,” died Tuesday of complications from strokes. He was 85.
The title reference speaks more to the scoring spread between the 85 year old Bentsen for the Rat Pack and Abu al-Zarqawi for Gary H last week than it does to compare either to the receiver of the Magic Bullet.
In the words of Jerry Lewis, ROLL THAT BIG BOARD!
(125-85)*1.8ck = 73, plus 25 solo hit bonus = 98 points.
We have a new leader as The Rat Pack squeaks into first (couldn't resist...).
Not shabby at all, shows the importance of the Confidence Kicker (CK). The CK may also show how bad most of us look for piling on the Ariel Sharon bandwagon.

Zarqowi? Zar-Blowie!
Mood:
a-ok
Topic: Death Score
American Forces moved quickly on intelligence that Al Qaeda #2 Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was huddling with clerics. One bunker buster later, al-Zarqawi was dead.
Many around the world rejoiced in his death as a symbol that terrorists do indeed face justice. Few rejoiced more than Mortfolio's own Gary H.
Gary took a huge risk with Abu in the 1.9 Confidence kicker, based on young age (39) and also what I would say could be a difficulty in verifying his death. Here are the digits:
(125-39) *1.9 = 164 + 25pts unique bonus = a record 189 POINTS for a single death!
There exists much confusion in regards to Mark M's entry of Ayman al-Zawahiri. That is a different dude. Wikipedia wins again. Mark gets nothing and likes it.
PS - There is a last terrorist bonus of 20 points that cannot be awarded until the terminus of the contest. Stay tuned if Gary H can go over 200 points with this pick alone!

You can click on this forever.
And why is the word "Impaler" so damn funny to me?

Tiger Wood's Father
Mood:
incredulous
Topic: Death NOT Score
It is hard to believe that a mortician gets points based on someone else's ability to procreate. The Earl of Wood certainly did a fine job of parenting, but even retarded people can accomplish this act. Celebrity by association should not be allowed. I guess the friends & family plan has evolved.

If you haven't heard that some of the strangest human freak stories happen in Germany or Florida (scroll down halfway), chalk one up for the Rheinland.
Seems there is a dark underbelly of the Internet (pot calling the kettle black?) that deals with cannabilism as the ultimate sexual fetish (insert uncomfortable pause here).
In Germany just such a story is gripping the nation. Armin Meiwes stands trial for ritual sexual cannabilism and lo and behold it is pushing the boundaries of legal defense.
After catching my breath from the horror, i laughed out loud when the last paragraph on the first link talks about practitioners signing a contract to protect the rights of the survivor.
Let the comments begin!

Not a good week for the economists....
Mood:
incredulous
Topic: Death Score
Missed one from last week...funny how these happen in threes! Liberal and unnecessarily verbose columnist William Buckley laments the passing of noted Harvard Economist John Kenneth Galbraith passes away at age 97, putting Larry V on the board!
Veterans of this exercise will quickly realize how little impact this score will have on the standings...
Age (125-97) = 28 CC = 1.0 Solo hit=25 Grand Total - 53 points
Larry, you are no longer in last place!
As Brian G aptly stated, "He was too old - in fact you (should be) penalized points - see how the "Affluent Society" treats ya?" (Extra Points for referential humor!)
